I’m Dreaming of a Warm Christmas.

Huh?  That’s why we live in Katy or somewhere in the Houston area.  If we felt like skiing, we would go to Colorado.  Houston offers its own special Christmas charm in that the weather rarely if ever gets harsh in December.  This allows guests and residents to make plans accordingly as one or two days may get as warm as 80 degrees.

About half of the time the Houston area receives about two to five inches of rain.  Rarely that rain turns to flakes of snow, but you know that if you have lived here for a time.  Why not welcome friends and relatives from the North who want to escape the harsh winter weather for a week or two?

The Best Time to Install a Sprinkler System…or Drainage System.

It’s Concrete…not a Diamond!

Concrete will always crack, it’s inevitable. At Laird Landscaping one of our primary focuses is the design of hardscapes.  That often entails ridged pavements such as poured concrete. Concrete joints are a relatively minor part of most projects, but can easily lead to poor planning and design if installed incorrectly.

To avoid unwanted cracks, we utilize a couple of concepts: control joints and expansion joints.  Control joints are installed in concrete to control cracks where they are desired.  They only crack at pre-planned locations.  Expansion joints expand and contract independently of one another without cracking.

This is the time.  In the Houston area this is an ideal time to lay sod.  We all want that gorgeous, thick green lawn.  The easiest and fastest way to accomplish that in most cases is by installing sod.  Although sod may be the fastest and easiest way to get an instant lush lawn it is not necessarily a DIY job!

Here in Katy and Houston we have the luxury of mild winters which assists plant hardiness.  It is important to make sure you chose a moderate-season to install sod.  Grass roots go dormant in temperatures less than 50 degrees.  For this reason, winter is very risky to install sod because of possible exposure to colder temperatures.
