What is Flagstone.

It is a beautiful choice as an accent for your Houston area landscaping, that’s for sure!  Flagstone is defined as a generic flat stone, that is cut into regular rectangles or squares and shapes and is usually used for paving slabs or walkways, patios, flooring, fences and roofing.  You have seen it…now you want it on your property.

Perhaps you prefer dry-laid flagstone where the pieces are placed on a bed of sand and gravel.  We recommend that a patio or walkway base be at least 3” deep, then filled with a layer of compacted gravel covered with coarse sand.  Mortared flagstone consists of flagstone pieces that have been permanently set with mortar to a prepared subbase.

Whatever you decide, please let us help.  Here at Laird Landscaping we have been beautifying Katy and Houston area homes with landscape ideas including flagstone for decades.  The public named us Katy’s best landscaper.  Let’s get together and turn your home into a castle by calling us at Laird Landscaping.  That phone number is (281) 278-2795.

More Water…More Green.

Does your Houston area home have a sprinkler system?  Are you thinking of adding onto it?  Doing so requires basic familiarity with cutting and gluing PVC pipe, as well as being physically able to do a lot of the trenching.  The original control box usually does not need to be replaced to add to the system, however additional valves, piping and sprinkler heads need to be installed.

In order to do so, you must locate the existing sprinkler valves.  These may be above ground or below in a plastic valve box.  If they are underground, remove the box and excavate the soil on one side of the valves to make space for adding the new valves.  Don’t forget to turn off the main water supply and cut the PVC pipe that supplies the water.

It is quite an undertaking and one that is one of the many services that we provide at Laird Landscaping.  The Laird family has been installing, replacing, and adding to sprinkler systems in the Katy and Houston area for decades.  This is a great time to give us a call to assess your sprinkler system.  That phone number is (281) 578-2795.

What are Expansion Joints?

An expansion joint is a material placed in the joints between concrete slabs to protect the slabs from cracking when they contract and expand with the dramatic changes in Houston area temperatures. Think of it as a shock absorber, absorbing the stress from the slab's movement.

Here is just some of what the job entails –

1.  First of all, debris is swept away from the site.
2.  The old material needs to be removed…probably with a putty knife.
3.  Clean out the joints with a wet vac.
4.  Apply the adhesive with a brush.
5.  Cover and then seal the joint.

Do you want it done professionally, or are you prepared for a less than perfect job that will affect the look of your property?  May we suggest Laird Landscaping of Katy serving the Houston area with quality landscaping work including expansion joint replacement?  Call Trey and the crew at Laird Landscaping for an estimate at (281) 578-2795.

There are Landscapers and then There are Landscapers.

It is sort of like being a doctor.  Is your doctor a general practitioner or a skilled surgeon?  Don’t get us wrong, the Houston area needs both.  Just as you would not hire a family doctor to do intricate brain surgery, you would not employ a skilled lawn manicurist to design your property’s landscaping.

To be able to legally refer to yourself as a landscape architect you must have a bachelor's or even a master's degree in landscape architecture from a university and be licensed by the state in order to design and work on landscape projects.  It also helps if you have learned from the very best landscape architect…my dad!

When it is time (and, hopefully 2019 is the year) to design your Katy area home’s landscaping please think of me and my team.  I am Trey (Trey because I am the third Otis in the family) Laird.  We care about your property almost as much as you do, and we want to turn your home into a showcase this year.  Just give me a call at (281) 578-2795.

Color Up Your Property.

There is nothing more eye-appealing than adding color to your landscaping.  I think we have some ideas that you will be excited about.  There are few elements that enhance the look of your property more than seasonal flowers.  We have some stunning combinations that will increase your home’s curb appeal year around.

We have a seasonal color strategy that consists of a planting schedule that changes with the seasons.  Yes, even in Houston there are seasons!  Best of all, we understand budgets.  If the annual cost of rotational, seasonal planting is restricted by your budget, then consider a one-time perennial design and planting.

We enter the New Year as dedicated as we have ever been to beautifying the properties of Katy and Houston area homeowners.  For two generations we have served the area’s landscaping needs.  You know us as Laird Landscaping.  Do you have a vision for your property in the New Year?  Just give us a call at (281) 578-2795.
